Welcome to the 2006/2007 school year!
Supplies: All students are expected to come to class prepared. Depending on what class you are enrolled in, you will need the following:
Notebook or loose-leaf paper
Folder
Writing utensils (NO red pencils or pens) Erasable pens are great!
White Out—the tape kind, not the liquid
Calculator
Textbook
Workbook
Grading: Grading will be based on cumulative points, with points given for homework, class work, quizzes, tests, and projects. Tests and projects generally are worth more. The actual point value of the assignment will always be announced when it is assigned. The grade will be calculated by comparing points earned to points that could have been earned throughout the quarter. Thus, homework and class work can carry a lot of weight and should not be ignored. Almost all of the tests will be open-book. For full year courses, there will be a midterm exam, and a final exam. There will be no exemptions, and each quarter is worth 20%, with each exam worth 10%. For a half-year course, each quarter is worth 40% and the final exam is worth 20%.
Discipline: I expect appropriate behavior in my classroom in order to enhance the learning environment. Discipline procedures will follow the discipline code. If your behavior implies that a chair with wheels is too unsafe for you to sit in, you will be asked to sit in a regular chair. No adjustments should be made to the computers!
Attendance: It is important to be in class. On a daily basis, you will need to complete given class work. This cannot be done at home. If you are absent, you will need to make up the missed seat time. This can be done during a study hall, before or after school, or by making other arrangements. Most of the classes involve in-class projects and group projects. It is necessary to be in school to work on these. If you have a class 1st period in my classroom, you need to strive to get to school on time. Tardiness is not acceptable. Detention will be assigned after you accumulate three tardies. (For each three, you receive an hour after school.) Tardy is entering the room after the bell has sounded at 8:15 a.m. for 1st period class.
Assignments: Assignments need to be handed in on time. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT RECEIVE FULL CREDIT. After five school days, it will not be accepted for any credit. If you enter school after your class has met for the day, I expect that you will make contact with me to hand in work, and find out what is due the following day. Likewise, if you leave school before your class has met, you are expected to make contact with me before you leave.
I anticipate a wonderful year!
