Syllabus and or Grading Information:

MATH SYLLABUS

Mrs. Piper

Mathematics Teacher

Franklin CSD

Supplies:  All students are expected to come to class prepared to work.  Therefore, students are expected to have the following.

             Pencils and pens

3- ring binder (or a section in one)

             Standard notebook paper

Some items will be provided in class, such as ruler, compass, protractor and graphing calculators. These items will not be allowed to leave the classroom. They will be needed to do homework assignments and to prepare for exams, so a set will be needed at home. The calculator we will use in class is the TI-84. Students are not required to buy their own calculators but are encouraged to do so as they can be used on the Regents Exams.

Discipline:  I expect appropriate behavior in my classroom in order to enhance the learning environment.  Discipline procedures will follow the school’s discipline plan.

Assignments:  Homework is assigned daily. Students are to show all their work.  If no work is shown, no credit is given. Late assignments will not receive full credit except in cases of excused absences.  It is the student’s responsibility to make up work when he/she is absent.  Extra help is available before school, after school, and on other agreed upon times.  Just Ask!!!

Grading:  Grading will be based on cumulative points, with points given for homework, class work, quizzes, tests, and exams. The grade will be calculated by comparing points earned to possible points for each quarter.  Thus, homework can carry a lot of weight and should not be ignored.

Final grades will be calculated as follows. Each quarter grade will count for 20% with a Midterm Exam and Final Exam counting 10% each.  Midterms and Finals will be given during an exam schedule as determined by the school. Exemptions will not be given from these exams.

Tardy Policy:  I will be keeping track of the number of times a student is tardy to class. Every third time a student is tardy they will receive a detention.

I am looking forward to the new school year.  I hope family members will come to this year’s Open House for a meet and greet time.  Please feel free to get in touch with me any time there are questions or concerns.
