Welcome to the 7th & 8th Grade Page

 

 


          Social Studies 7 – 8 is a two year chronological study of the United States and New York State.  The main emphasis is on the political, social, economic, and cultural growth and development of the country and state.  In 7th grade, the period of pre-Columbian times to the pre-Civil War Era are studied.  In 8th grade the Civil War Era to the present is studied.

SEVENTH GRADE – Social Studies 7  (This is the first year of a two year course.)

 

Unit 1:  The Geography of the Americas

Unit 2:  Pre-Columbian Cultures  (Prehistory – 1600)

Unit 3:  Exploration and Colonization  (1100 – 1750)

Unit 4:  The Revolutionary War Era  (1750 – 1790)

Unit 5:  The Constitution

Unit 6:  The Nation Takes Shape  (1789 – 1825)

Unit 7:  The Nation Expands  (1824 – 1860)

 

 

EIGHTH GRADE – Social Studies 8  (This is the second year of the two course.)

 

Unit 8:  The Civil War Period  (1850 – 1880)

Unit 9:  Transforming the Nation  (1865 – 1915)

Unit 10:  A New Role for the Nation (1880 – 1920)

Unit 11: Prosperity, Depression, and War  (1919 –1945)

Unit 12:  The Nation Today and Tomorrow  (1945 – Present) 

 

 

 

Supply List  for 7th & 8th Grade

1.     A 2 – 2 ½” three ring binder  (this will be used for all subjects)

2.     Loose leaf paper 

3.     Blue or black pens

4.     Colored pencils (a box of 8 or 12 is more than enough)

5.     A burgundy folder which will be provided to them the first day of school
