Information from the NYS DOH and NYSED regarding the 2017/2018 Flu Season
***Incident Notice*** - Follow-Up Communication
Dear Franklin School Community:

Recent events have reminded us all of the importance of school security and safety. I am writing to make you aware of security and safety in our school.

For several years, New York State has required local school districts to develop safety and security plans, which are filed with local law enforcement. These plans are comprehensive and include a variety of internal protocols, procedures, plans, building level photographs, and maps.  These plans are not subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Law. We do not want our plans falling into the hands of those who could do us harm.

To further our security, we have received assurances from the Sheriff and State Police that we will be seeing an increased police presence in and around our school building.  Please do not be alarmed by the presence of these officers. Rather, be reassured that your school and your law enforcement agencies are working together in the service of your child’s wellbeing.

Finally, if we have learned anything from recent events in our community it is this: If you see something or hear something, then please say something.  This is a call to action that can save lives.  We encourage everyone to reach out to us with information concerning our students or our school.

Respectfully,

Brad Zilliox

Superintendent

***Incident Notice***
On February 18, 2018, Mr. Zilliox received information from the New York State Police concerning a twenty year old individual who made threats against unspecified members of the Franklin school community. The individual, who is not a Franklin resident and has never attended Franklin schools, has since been arrested. There is no on-going threat to the safety of Franklin students or to the Franklin school community. We cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation, and we are grateful to the New York State Police for the swift action in making the arrest. Please know that the district is taking any threat seriously and will not hesitate to take action as needed. We ask that everyone be extremely mindful and cautious regarding their comments and/or communications.
Smart Schools Investment Plan

In November of 2014, NYS voters approved the Smart Schools Bond Act. This Bond Act provides funding for improvement related to school connectivity and security measures. Franklin Central School received an allocation of $337,323. The proposed plan is attached to this news article.
