Burgin, Patricia; Mark Boshnack; and Jane Miller. Through the Years in the Town of Franklin 1792-1992,  New York:  Oulehoudt Valley Historical Society, 1992.

This book provided us with pictures and dates.  There is a section in the back of this book that contains a copy of the National Register of Historic Places Nomination Form.   Franklin has been declared an historic village.  On this form, buildings are listed.  This helped us discover when buildings were built and who occupied them. 

 

Duerden, Tim.  A History of Delaware County, New York: A Catskill Land and Its People, 1797-2007.   New York: Purple Mountain Press, 2007. 

This book provided us with a few dates.

 

Duerden, Tim.  Franklin Walking Tour.  New York:  Delaware County Historical Association, 2007. 

This pamphlet gave us building dates and a few facts about historic business buildings.

 

Franklin Improvement Society.  A Walk Back in Time:  Historic Franklin Business District.  New York:  The Village Printer, 2007

This calendar contains pictures and facts of historic Franklin business buildings.

 

Freedman, Russell.  Kids at Work:  Lewis Hine and the Crusade Against Child Labor.  New York:  Clarion Books, 1994.

We used this book to learn about Lewis Hine who used to stay in Franklin during the summers.

Minutes from the Franklin Village Board Meetings, 1792-1880

These minutes provided us with some dates and facts.  We learned that roaming animals were a problem.

 

 History of Delaware County:1797-1880.  New York:  W.W. Munsell, 1880.

We were able to glean some pictures and dates from this book. 

 

Pine, Joshua.  The Bygone Era Rafting on the Delaware 1883.  New York:  Pepacton Press, 1995.

This book taught us about the logging trade that occurred in the 1800s.

 

Simonson, Mark.  Reminiscing…Across the Valleys-Volume 2.  New York:  Creative Printing, 2003.  Volume 4 (2004), Volume 5 (2006).

All three of these books provided us with bits of information about our school, the village, and James McCall.

 

Various un-catalogued scrapbooks from the Oulehoudt Valley Historical Society.

Most of our pictures and dates came from these scrapbooks and the Pearl Whigham Village Historian Scrapbooks below.  These photos, scraps of news articles, and postcards, provided us with the majority of information.

 

Various Artifacts from the Oulehoudt Valley Historical Society Museum, Institute and Center Sts., Franklin, New York 13775.

We took pictures of the Bicentennial quilt, the Delaware Literary Institute model, the CB Church model, the butter churn, and maps from the museum.
